In 1920 the Hungarian Paul Gordon founded the literary agency PAUL GORDON
VERLAG. He chose remarkable contemporary plays (i.e. DIE SCHWÄRMER
by Robert Musil), rented a theatre and brought them to their premiere.
In 1937 Gordon had to leave Berlin. In his exile in Paris he put on the
adaptation of HIOB by Joseph Roth in the former 'Pigalle' Theatre. In the
United States Paul Gordon produced the first musicfilm in film history
with YEHUDI MENUHIN, which had premiere in New York in 1949.
Paul Gordon and Bernd Bauer founded the literary agency BERND BAUER
VERLAG with the aim of promoting contemporary playwrights, especially in
the German speaking countries Austria, Germany and Switzerland but also
in the other European countries. Later on the BERND BAUER VERLAG took over
the Paul Gordon Verlag.
In 1992, the BERND BAUER VERLAG initiated the FIRST EUROPEAN DRAMA AWARD COMPETITION in co-operation with the State Theatre Kassel and several other German theatres. More than 1.100 scripts from 29 European nations were submitted. The award winning plays meanwhile had premiere in German and Russian theatres.
Numerous works of our authors have won important awards such as the PRIX FUTURA, CIVIS AWARD etc. The film 'UNDERGROUND' was awarded the GOLDEN PALM in Cannes, the script of which was written by Dusan Kovacevic, author of several successful plays.
The BERND BAUER VERLAG represents playwrights and authors from Austria,
Belgium, Belorussia, Croatia, Cyprus, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain,
Greece, Hungary, Island, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Poland,
Portugal, Russia, Rumania, Slowakia, Spain, Switzerland, Tshech Republic,
Turkey, Ukrainia and the former Yugoslawia.
